The Highs and Lows 2-04-08

The Highs and Lows
So much has happened in the past couple of weeks. I'll start with the sad news... On Monday, the 21st, N's Stepdad passed away. He has had heart trouble for over 10 years now and was given a new heart at the end of 2005. He made the most out of the time he was given, travelling to CA to see his daughters and grandchildren just a couple of months ago. It is sad to see him go, but what an amazing blessing to know that he is in heaven and he no longer feels pain. The funeral was Saturday. It was a very nice service and his daughter did an amazing job with the eulogy. He will definitely be missed :-(.

As I mentioned in the previous post, we dedicated Bear two weeks ago. The night before was Sweet Pea's first night in her "big girl bed". It is actually the same mattress that she had in her crib, but now she has a toddler bed that she can get in and out of by herself. She has done so great with it and I love it because I can lay down with her! She is such a snuggle bunny (even though her cast gets in the way). It's been quite a time for her recently - she is also potty trained (during the day) and we are working on getting rid of the paci, which I think will be our toughest challenge.

On Wednesday the 23rd, we took Bear to his 9 month appt and again he lived up to his nickname. He is over 30 inches tall (over 95th%) and weighs over 20 pounds (50th %). N says he is tall and skinny, just like his daddy! He is a big baby, which makes it so fun to squeeze him. And it only took 9 months, but I have finally given him a proper room. We moved all of my office furniture out and decorated his room. As crazy at it may sound, I have really had baby fever lately, so I am thinking that finishing his room will cure it for a while :-)! (At least N hopes it will)

Last Tuesday we had strong winds come through and apparently they were directed straight at our fence. About midday one side of our fence just blew over. I didn't really think it was that big of a deal until we had to take each dog out on a leash 3 or 4 times a day and until we received an estimate of $1,500 to fix it (or $5,000 for a new one). Keep in mind we are hoping to sell this house in a few months, so we don't want to sink a lot of money into it! After I convinced N that he wouldn't have time to fix it last weekend, we finally found some guys to fix it for a little less than the first estimate. Yea! They finished it today.

Oh, and the cast came OFF today! The x-rays of Sweet Pea's arm showed the bones are healing but they are still broken :-(. The Dr says we have to keep her "on the ground" (not flying through the air or jumping from couches) for 2 weeks. It's tough to keep a 2 year-old down, especially with a new found freedom. So I secretly wish she was still wearing the cast.

I'll post pics soon...
